A while back I went to visit the Fox in it's last resting place not far from the bus. To my surprise, it was gone! Replaced by a red Ford Focus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOEfDvr4DcQ). We learned later that my poor Fox has be relegated to the "graveyard", previously known as Al's Car, which is a quite a distance beyond the rock crusher. This past weekend we decided to go look for it. Unfortunately the rope from the rock crusher to Al's car had broken a while back, so there wasn't a line to follow. We ventured out on the road bed past the bus, past the platform, past the orange barrel, and another orange barrel, and 3 yellow posts that seem like they need a sign on them that so "GO NO FURTHER". We went a little further, and then gave up. On the way back we stayed on the right side of the road bed to see if we could find anything, and off in the distance I noticed a dark form in the water. What did we find?? Al's Car and my beloved VW Fox. She's not looking too good these days, so I guess it's good that they moved her.

Here is a fun project from back in the day. Sinking the first car I ever owned. My 1987 VW Fox got me through some hard winters in the northeast, and several years in North Carolina before I gave up on it. When I did, I decided to sink it in Fantasy Lake Adventure Park. Took a little convincing to get the owner of the park to let us sink the Fox, but after agreeing to remove the OLD German wreck (a VW Bug), which was in pretty bad shape, he let us move ahead with the sinking. It was a chilly day in October 2008. The dive team was suited up and ready. Spotters made sure there were no divers in the area. Nothing went exactly as planned, but we had a blast. I had this whole project documented on my old site before it crashed, but all that's left now is some photos of the sinking.
These days, all you might see left of the Fox is the door, unless you want a long swim to the end of the road bed. She's not looking too good these days, and was moved last year to the back of the quarry to die. Last time I was there the door had fallen off, and was laying next to the new Mr. Beast Red Ford Focus.

Did anyone really miss this? Probably not, but since I'm laid up, unable to dive, or pretty much do anything, and I'm bored out of my mind, I thought it was time to get the site back up. On the one hand, hopefully I'm mobile again soon, and don't have time to finish this. On the other hand, I'm going to try to recreate some of my old content, and add new content with all of my diving fun.
I have been diving since 1998, deciding to get certified while planning a trip to Australia after finishing grad school. My plan was to go to Australia, make a few dives in the Great Barrier Reef, say I did it, and move on. Instead I came home from that trip, purchased my own diving gear, and never looked back. I went on to become a Dive Control Specialist for 10 years before becoming a full Open Water Instructor in 2010. I've been teaching scuba ever since. I met my wife on a scuba trip with my local dive shop, Gypsy Divers, and we have 3 daughters. My oldest is a certified diver, and I hope that one day my younger 2 join us for the adventure.
In addition to diving in Australia, I have been to several locations in the Caribbean, including St. Marten, Saba, St. Kits, Barbados, and Bonaire. My favorite diving destination is Key Largo. Why? Because it's where my wife and I began our diving adventures, and it's so easy to get to and has a great atmosphere. As an instructor I obviously log many hours in our local diving spot, Fantasy Lake Adventure Park. You may have seen my car down there if you've ever been!
